Sandy NJ Relief Fund Opens Fourth Grant Cycle
Eligible Non-Profits Active in Sandy Relief Efforts Encouraged to Apply
(Morristown, NJ) - The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, chaired by First Lady Mary Pat Christie, announces the launch of its fourth grant cycle. The Relief Fund expects to award $5 million in grants during this application period.
"The Relief Fund is pleased to continue its commitment to the people of New Jersey," said First Lady Mary Pat Christie. "Through our grants process we have been able to administer aid effectively to those communities affected by Hurricane Sandy. We are grateful to our grantee partners who remain active in helping New Jerseyans overcome recovery and rebuilding challenges and will continue to combine our efforts to meet the needs of those still struggling."
The rolling online grant application period begins today for eligible non-profit organizations providing Sandy specific disaster relief and recovery services in New Jersey. The Relief Fund's focus areas include: housing assistance, social services specific to unmet needs, mental health support and financial and legal counseling. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis beginning March 3, 2014 and ending May 23, 2014. Final grant announcements can be expected on or before June 30, 2014. Organizations are encouraged to apply early in the application process as grants will be announced and awarded on an ongoing basis.
Applicants must be a registered 501(c) 3 tax-exempt non-profit. Proposals will be evaluated on several criteria including organizational capacity, track record of success, project alignment to priority funding areas, clarity of project implementation, budget detail, expected outcomes, and opportunity for impact. The minimum grant request is $10,000.

The Fund will continue to post all grant awards on its website and track distributed dollars from start to finish, ensuring applicants are delivering the promised assistance to families and communities according to their approved proposals. To date, the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund has awarded $25.7 million to 93 organizations across the state. Together the Relief Fund and its network of grantees have assisted thousands of New Jerseyans in need.

Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund Inc. is a private independent charitable organization, not formed or controlled by, or affiliated with the State of New Jersey or any of its agencies or offices. As a New Jersey nonprofit corporation exempt from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3), the Fund has received a determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service providing that contributions to the Fund are deductible as charitable contributions under Internal Revenue Code Section 170. The fund is registered with the Charities Registration and Investigation Section of the Division of Consumer Affairs under the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey.
